Steven A Thomson, PMP, MAPM is a Digital PMO Lead and senior project controls professional with more than 26 years of experience across nuclear, defence, infrastructure and major transformation programmes.
Across his career he has worked in senior roles spanning PMO, project controls, planning, cost, risk, governance and delivery assurance. The work has focused on helping organisations improve control, strengthen decision-making, and build more effective delivery environments in high-consequence and highly regulated settings.
His experience spans nuclear new-build and decommissioning, UK defence programmes, major civil infrastructure, transport, and large-scale transformation, typically at portfolio or programme level, and often in environments with multiple Tier 1 contractors, independent assurance regimes and regulator oversight. He has worked as a senior practitioner and adviser to organisations including Sellafield Ltd through the Programme and Project Partners arrangement, leading Digital PMO strategy and implementation across integrated planning, cost, risk, change, reporting and assurance services.
His operating philosophy is practitioner-led and evidence-first: the best PMO controls are the ones people actually use, and the best governance is the kind that survives challenge.
